What Is Direct Cremation?
Direct cremation is the simplest and most affordable way to handle a loved one's final arrangements. The cremation takes place privately, without a preceding funeral service, and the ashes are returned to your family — leaving you free to remember your loved one in whatever way feels right. Bay Area Online Cremations has served Gulf Coast families for more than 18 years, and every arrangement can be completed online or by phone.
How Direct Cremation Works
With direct cremation, your loved one is brought into our care and cremated privately once the required permits and authorizations are in place. There is no embalming, no casket purchase, and no scheduled ceremony beforehand.
Because the cremation is separate from any memorial gathering, your family can plan a service — or choose not to — entirely on your own schedule. Many families hold a celebration of life weeks or even months later, once everyone can be together.
What's Included — and What Isn't
Our Essential Care package covers everything a direct cremation requires: the services of our licensed funeral director and staff, transfer of your loved one into our care within 40 miles, refrigeration, the crematory fee, and an alternative cremation container.
Certified death certificates, permits, and other third-party fees are billed separately at cost. Families who would like more can step up to our Harmonious Tribute package, which adds an urn and an online memorial, or Eternal Rest, which also includes a private family viewing. Our complete General Price List is published on this site.
Why Families Choose It
Direct cremation costs a fraction of a traditional funeral because it skips the expenses that drive funeral bills up: embalming, casket, facility rental, and staffing for a ceremony. Texas law does not require embalming or a casket for cremation.
Just as important, it gives families flexibility. There is no pressure to organize a service in two or three days while you are grieving. You decide when, where, and how to honor your loved one's life.
